So I had my portfolio reviewed last night…

By none other than Jon Foster and Carl Dobsky. Jon Foster is one of my favorite living contemporary illustrators and Carl Dobsky is one of the top living fine artists, so this was a unique opportunity to have my work reviewed by these guys. They really took the time to give some very usefull pointers and critique, analyzing every piece. It’s a great experience to get advice, as well as some recognition by artists you really admire and look up to.

I included this particular piece, eventhough it’s not finished, because I like the dynamic pose and the overall feel of it. One thing Jon and Carl both pointed out in pretty much all of my work, is my use of too much heavy blacks, like in this one. It’s defenitely something I needed to hear and will work on from now on. For this piece I’m trying to replace the heavy black of the catsuit with some dark blue-ish hue. Also fixed her left leg, but I already did that before I had the review.

Nice that it went well, the interview I mean. Already looks so much better with the legs being redone (partly). You can count yourself lucky that these artist do these things for such a price :P , If I was already a bit better at illustrating I would’ve deffo done it!

    ‘ave a nice weekend!

    Cheers Toob!
I think there will be more opportunities like this in the future, so yeah you definitely should if you get the chance.
Actually the prize I paid for it goes straight to CA.org to keep maintaining the site and improve it which is so benefitial for all it’s members.
These guys did it for free! I read somewhere on CA.org they were at it for a solid 12 hours with minor breaks. Jeez can you believe that! now that’s generous and dedication, respect!

    C ya @ work :)
