Portrait of Ikuko’s Ghost
Well here it is. The painting I mentioned briefly earlier and that I’ve been using as my banner, well part of it. I’ve been working on this of and on for a period of several months. It was one of those projects I kept going back to, never feeling it was finished. But finally I decided to call it quits. I’m pretty satisfied with the result. It turned out quite well in my opinion.
As for the subject of the painting. It’s about a japanese ghost. A vengefull spirit. She probably was murdered and remains among the living to avenge her death…or something like that. It’s up to you viewers to make up your own interpretations.

Portrait study
Done with the help from a photo of my friend PuPu. I used the photo as a base to nail shapes , lights and shadows. Then I put the photo away and started detailing and altering shapes from imagination. The end result looks quite different from the original photo.
I actually did this in greyscale a while back. Today I decided to slap some colour on it.

Update 2
A couple more hours work on this one.
Gave her some black angel wings. It’s been done about a billion times before, but hey it looks pretty cool. Atleast I think so.
And well, there just had to be a severed head in there heh.

Recycling
I have this habit of hardly finishing any of my personal work in one go, thus leaving my pc cluttered with unfinished paintings, sketches and scribbles. Sometimes I just leave ‘em because I’m not feeling it and sometimes I get back at it after several weeks, months or even years and change it drastically. The bloody ghostly face that I use in my banner and the girl with guitar in my first post actually came from the same painting. They turned out as two completely different pieces, both in subject and style. This happens mostly because I often start something just for fun without having a clear direction and just let it unfold as I work on it. Sometimes I’m taking a completely separate path to the one I was initially going, but find elements I liked in the earlier version that got lost taking the new route and decide to pick that up again. This happened with the paintings I mentioned.
So tonight I was going trough some old folders on my pc and found this doodle I did some years ago that I suddenly felt like turning into an illustration. I have a really vague idea of where I want to go, but anything is possible at this point. For all I know this too will turn into something that doesn’t look anything like it does now…I kinda like it when that happens. The beauty of working digitally. You won’t lose your old files so the initial painting is still there and you can get back at it any time…if you don’t save over it, or your HD fries, or even worse, your office burns to the ground without having a back-up that is…

Look at what the mailman just delivered
It’s Ashley Wood’s Euro Defence Bramble! I’m a huge fan of everything Ashley Wood and started collecting his toys since Bertie the Pipebomb came out.
The level of detail in the paintjob is simply amazing. IMO ED Bramble is the most beautifull Ash bot to date. He’s friggin’ huge too!

Just for fun
Not really sure where I’m going with this, if at all, but I figured it would be nice to post it here.

Another one I’ve been working on for a little while. I wanted it to be a dynamic piece of some tough chick in a ‘Matrix lobby scene’ like gun fight. I intend to paint some big fat mural painting behind her. Of course a lot of bullet holes and shattering pieces of wall everywhere. It’s mostly just experimenting.

First post
Hiya everyone who stumbled in here. welcome to my little corner of the web.
The purpose of this blog is to act as a journal in which I intend to post stuff I’m working on, creative processes, sketches etc. I’m not much of a writer so it’ll probably be just images in here.
I intend to implement a gallery page with finished pieces soon. I just need to figure out how to do it heh…
Anyways, I’ll kick of with this piece I’m working on. It’s refering to a famous song by The Clash, but which one? ;P
For now thank you for visiting. Please do drop by again sometime
Cheerio!
